The 2009 Green Bay Mike & Key Club Field Day was held at Ashwaubomay park once again. The contest ran from 1:00PM on Saturday to 1:00PM on Sunday. The club had an unexpected vist from a Green Bay Press Gazzette reporter during setup just an hour before the event started. You can read about it it the Sunday (June 28th,2009)Press Gazzette in the Local/State section of the paper and see a great multi-media slide show online at
www.greenbaypressgazzette.com . The club had both the old and new trailers setup. They operated two stations. One station operated strickly from a deep-cylce marine battery charged from a solar panel. The other station and laptops operated from a generator.
We began setting up on Friday around 1:00PM. Those who showed up managed to get a 75M and a 40M dipole strung by 9:00PM. Late Saturday morning a few more people showed up to help finish erecting the 10M, 15M and 20M dipoles. By 2:00PM we finally had 2 stations operating (one CW and one phone) and making a few contacts. Mother nature cooled things off a bit by providing a rain shower late in the afternoon. Throughout the weekend, there were a lot of old and new faces. We had a good flow of old friends and new hams making for a great weekend!
As one of newer hams in the club this was my (KC9OIS) first field day, I learned a lot. I never realized how much work is involved in getting every thing together from radios to the club trailers, making sure we had plenty of water, and getting all the equipment (radios, mics and power cords) together and hooked up properly. I was especially surprised at how long it takes to get 5 dipoles strung up between some trees.
Despite all the things that didn't go right, I still had a great time with all the folks that helped out and new hams and non-hams that I met!
A word from your webmaster
Hi all,
I'm still working on the new and improved look for the ARES/RACES website. I'm trying to make it blend in more with the club website in color and format. I've also added some more content. The MEMBERS AREA is not functional yet and the ARES Database is not functional. You can check out the test site at http://bcares.supportnow.org .
If anyone has information, events, pictures or other club releated material that they want to see on the site, send the request with all the details to me at kc9ois@arrl.com and I will see that it is put out here.
One side note, the picture album link is not functioning at this point. I am working to resolve this issue as quickly as possible.
Once the bugs are worked out I will move it permanently to http://bcares.k9eam.com .
I am also trying to contact the various webmasters in the area to update their links to our new site along with the updated information on the 147.360 repeater install on the 24th and the new PL tone.
PLEASE FEEL FREE TO COMMENT!

June 28th - Update ! ! The new repeater and controller for 147.360+ PL 100 is UP AND RUNNING at Bellin Hospital
Yep, the controller is identifying with the wrong ID. We need to check the port the repeater is plugged into. We also are planning to take a Bird wattmeter up and check the power on both sides of the duplexer and make some adjustments on the courtesy tone and squelch for starters.
There will probably be a few more minor adjustments to be made over the next few weeks as we work out the kinks in the system.
NA9J has a PC donated by KC9OIS with Linux on it for the IRLP Board. They will be working on configuring it over the next few weeks.
Thanks again to NA9J, WOLFE, N8KQS, K9BOB, W9JES and everyone else who helped make this move possible. Our sincere appreciation goes out ot the folks at Bellin Hospital for providing the site!
For the new hams in the club and anyone else interested the Calumet County ARES/RACES Net on Wednesday nights at 7:30PM on 147.300 PL 107.2 is broadcasting AMATEUR RADIO NEWSLINE(tm) REPORT after check-ins. Check it out. It's current Amateur radio news before it hits the print media.
